Pathology

If you require pathology services such as blood and urine testing, these may conveniently be performed at Northwest Women's Health.

Northwest Women's Health receives no financial benefit from pathology services offered on-site.

Why do doctors order pathology?

Your doctor may advice to have certain test to aid in the diagnosis of disease and the determination of a treatment plan. Test that can be ordered or collected in rooms include:

  • CST (Cervical Screening Test)
  • Blood investigations - these are various blood test that assist doctors in making their diagnosis
  • Biopsy -  eg. Cervical biopsy
  • Microbiology - deals with isolation and identification of infectious agents such as bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites that cause disease
  • Clotting and bleeding studies
  • Urine test - this is useful to diagnose urine infections, protein in urine may suggest worsening blood pressure issues in pregnancy


Your doctor will also be discussing results of various test that were performed before, during or after the surgery. These may be the:

  • Biopsy of peritoneal lining - to diagnose endometriosis
  • Specimen of a removed ovarian cyst
  • Specimen of the uterus in women who undego a hysterectomy
